Student Spotlight: Maxiliano’s Journey to a New Career

At 160 Driving Academy, we take pride in helping hardworking individuals transform their lives through opportunity, support, and career-focused training. This month, we’re proud to highlight Maxiliano N., whose dedication and resilience are a true inspiration.

From Hard Labor to New Horizons

Before joining 160, Maxiliano spent years doing tough work in the agriculture and construction industries. While the jobs were steady at times, he often faced layoffs and uncertainty. Tired of the cycle, he decided it was time to find a stable and rewarding career path. That’s when he discovered the opportunities that come with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Overcoming Barriers with Support

When Maxiliano visited 160, he met Sam, the branch manager, who helped connect him with California Human Development (CHD). This partnership opened the door to resources that made training possible. Without this support, Maxiliano admits the cost might have stopped him from pursuing CDL training. Instead, he was able to move forward and embrace the chance to change his future.

“I probably would’ve given up due to costs had it not been for the resources Sam shared, and CHD was very helpful,” Maxiliano said.

Inspired by Instructors

Training at 160 wasn’t just about driving—it was about building confidence and staying motivated. Maxiliano credits Arturo, Rick, and Blair from the yard staff for their guidance and encouragement. Their easygoing, supportive approach helped him stay focused and determined, even on the toughest days.

“I couldn’t have asked for better instructors. They are easygoing and want to see students succeed,” he shared.

Building a Career with New Skills

With his CDL training complete, Maxiliano didn’t just stop there—he earned his tanker endorsement, opening even more career opportunities. Sam worked with him one-on-one to secure not one, but two job opportunities: a temporary position to start earning right away and a long-term role that aligns with his new endorsement.
